Bitchin Bajas
Chicago’s Bitchin’ Bajas is the project of Cooper Crain, Dan Quinlivan and Rob Frye. Using a combination of synthesizers, reeds and woodwinds, the trio weaves technicolor tapestries with melodic grooves, hypnotic rhythms and bubbling electronics. Based around the concentric layering of repeating patterns, Bajas’ compositions stretch out into expansive explorations of time and structure (Dismal Niche).
Line up
Japanese electronic musician and sound artist Ryu Mito - A Tribe called NoiZ and Brussels-based French musician, composer and visual artist Roxane Métayer first met in Japan, during Roxane’s two-month residency in Kamiyama, on the island of Shikoku. After Ryu performed on Roxane’s cedar-wood quadraphonic sound system, the idea of a collaboration began to take shape.
Roxane Métayer is a French musician, composer and visual artist based in Brussels. Her practice combines violin, field recordings, voice and drawing, drawing inspiration from close observations of the natural world and its sounds.
Bitchin Bajas started in 2010 as solo side project for Cooper Crain, guitarist of Chicago Krautrock heroes Cave. Since then, Dan Quinlivan and Rob Frye joined the band and Bitchin Bajas have got the public attention thanks to a perfect, extensive discography on quality record labels such as Bathetic, Permanent, Hands In The Dark and Drag City. The trio play warm, instrumental, psychedelic and melodic ambient music, mixing minimal 60/70’s electronic with original acoustic elements: flute, saxophone, xylophone, woodwinds to name only a few.
