Cassels (uk)
Fri 27 Nov 2020Music for misanthropes and malcontents (postponed)
Cassels are fresh-faced brothers Jim and Loz Beck. The duo spent their youth rallying against the calm, countryside boredom of growing up in a small village in the Oxfordshire—developing a sound characterized by a maelstrom of erratic instrumentation and punk-inflected vocals. For Cassels, music is about authenticity. Together they embody the spirit of punk, even if their sound stretches the boundaries of any genre.
What's the story?
Throughout two LPs ,Cassels has operated outside of strict genre distinctions, both accumulating a loyal fanbase and winning plaudits along the way. A fresh take on post-punk and indie influenced by the likes of Shellac and Modest Mouse. In their music, they channel a generational voice. The noisy, edgy and sometimes deliberately jarring sound balances apathy with anger, augmented by intelligent lines about disillusionment and angst. It seems that the world will be hearing a whole lot more from this precociously talented pair. Cassels predicts to make a big splash in the future.
