Mattias De Craene has long explored the borderlands between genres, moving from jazz to dark film music and electronic rituals. Taiwanese-Canadian artist Alex Zhang Hungtai likewise resists being confined to a single style. As Dirty Beaches, he gained recognition for music that seemed to drift straight out of a David Lynch film: an intriguing blend of post-punk, jazzy ambient, and cinematic noir atmospheres. For this concert, the two musicians bring their worlds together to create a sound that is at once intimate, enigmatic, and hypnotic.
