+ Hooray for the Essay Ceremony (online event)

Radna Fabias, Loulou João, Jaouad Alloul, and Lisette Ma Neza present an artistic interpretation of the essays, poems and insights of the Caribbean-American author, poet, feminist, and activist Audre Lorde (° 1943, † 1992). Host Samira Saleh announces the winners of our essay competition "Hooray for the Essay".

For PILAR ASAP  - The Fluid Identity Edition, Pilar and deBuren, in co-curation with Scherpsteller Warda El-Kaddouri, have drawn up a series based on Audre Lorde's Sister Outsider. This in honor of the forthcoming Dutch translation of the book. We asked four artists to immerse themselves in Lorde's words and to work with them within the contours of a contemporary European context. Radna Fabias, Loulou João, Jaouad Alloul and Lisette Ma Neza present an artistic interpretation of the essays, poems and insights of the Caribbean-American author, poet, feminist and activist Audre Lorde (° 1943, † 1992). Host Samira Saleh interweaves the performances with the announcement of the top three essay competition Hooray for the Essay. We alternately listen to one of the winning essays and an artistic interpretation. In this way we bring together Lorde's two favorite forms of expression, the essay and the arts.
