Three Mondays in a row, our team carefully selected three documentaries that present unique angles on stories about music.
One looks into the personal story of a band within the setting of a live concert, another shows courageous attempts to break down (musical) barriers, and a third sheds light on an almost forgotten historical festival that has been captured in a mesmerizing docu. This Music Movie Monday is curated by Bjorne Baeten, Gijs Ieven & Eline Vancraeyveldt.

“A few years ago, I saw a documentary that immediately impressed me with the story of Anoosh & Arash. I hadn't really recognised for myself the privilege of being able to move freely in the electronic nightlife scene, even though it is a privilege that some people have to fight and sacrifice for.
It's a story that has your attention right from the start, and it strikes an important chord about freedom, power narratives & human rights.
It gives you a different view of the music scene, one which we know is at a contrast to the one others find themselves in.
Where opportunities are different because we were born somewhere else.
Music connects people, it's something we all have in common. A universal language. We find common ground on what makes us "human" in a way that it creates mutual understanding and connection.
That's why, once again, 'Raving Iran' is so powerful, important and very accurate.

Raving Iran
"Raving Iran" is an Iranian-Swiss documentary film directed by Susanne Regina Meures. The documentary follows the lives of two young Iranian DJs, Anoosh and Arash, who are passionate about electronic music and the underground rave scene. In Iran, where Western music and dancing are restricted, the DJs face challenges and risks as they try to pursue their musical dreams.
The film provides a glimpse into the struggles and conflicts between the conservative cultural norms of Iran and the desires of its youth to express themselves through music and freedom. "Raving Iran" explores themes of cultural repression, personal freedom, and the power of music in the face of adversity.
