How did we ever get here?
𝓐𝓷𝓸𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓻 𝓛𝓪𝓷𝓭 takes us on an exploration of a uchronic reality, in the wake of current violence, wounds of the past and concerns for the future. Selected artists collaborated on the creation of this « final » universe being in between reality and fiction. Through a science-fiction text, sculptures, video and sound installation, engage in meaningful dialogues becoming a gateway to collective contemplation, delving into the complexities of human existence, political landscapes, meeting point between ornamentalism and architecture, and the intimate aspects of our lives.
« (…) Lying on the ground, Marvin was watching the small damaged-wing butterfly that had landed on his thigh a few minutes ago, and that was now stuck in the slimy and quickly forming chrysalis, a mycorrhizal cocoon that would soon swallow the young boy completely. »
Collaboration and artistic expression are at the heart of this exhibition. Artists from different backgrounds, unfamiliar at first with each other, explored a subject according to their visions and together shaped the exhibition space that takes place in this non-specific land, time and place.

« (…) Among them, some were still just kids, others barely older than Marvin, and they all found it reassuring to be together for the last days of the world in which they had grown up in. »
Your skin has never been so soft as now covered in scales, title from the text printed on textile; tells the story of a group of young mutants — once human before the world undergoes major environmental changes — slowly metamorphosing in contact with a damaged landscape. The story mixes codes of "post-apocalyptic" science fiction literature and the adolescent aesthetic of intimate, bodily and social transformation. To extend this literary proposal, Astrid and Tristan imagined, in collaboration, a video that echoes the landscapes mentioned in the text, offering a contemplative moment of this environmental and intimate transition. Slowly, we discover between the ruins of one world and the beginning of another, the shadows of those who will soon be part of this hybrid environment forever. The sound of the video, composed by Tristan, based on the lyrics of a Linkin Park song quoted in the text, drowns the narrative in this deep emotional teenage dimension.

Artists
Tristan Bründler
Tristan Bründler, born in 1996 Paris, France; lives and works in Brussels, Belgium.
Tristan Bründler is a multidisciplinary sculptor artist. His sculptures are designed as environments where gesture and detail reign supreme. By mixing materials and references related to natural lifeforms, design and pre-modern architecture ranging from Baroque to Art Nouveau, he tries to understand the genesis of artificial and organic structures that surround him. Without a precise plan, he creates a dialogue with his hands and the material in order to mix different concepts: sweetness and hostility, primitiveness and preciousness, intensity and illumination.
Tristan graduated in 2019 with a DNA from the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Lyon and in 2021 with an MFA Installation Art from the Royal Academy of Fines-Arts KASK in Ghent. He has been included in several group exhibitions at Medusa Offspace, Brussels, BE; 3537, Paris, FR; Fondation Pernod Ricard, Paris, FR; Le Sample, Bagnolet, FR; Reset, Brussels, BE; Espace Voltaire, Paris, FR; Kunsthal Gent, Gent, BE. Also, one of his sculptures has been commissioned for the Madrigals Opera piece produced by Muziektheater
Transparant directed by Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe following a European tour.

Omar Castillo Alfaro
Omar Castillo Alfaro, born in 1991 Hildalgo, Mexico; lives and works in Paris, France.
Omar Castillo Alfaro is a multidisciplinary sculptor artist. The artist's immersive installations, videos, sculptures and poems question the heterogeneous puzzle of traumas caused by the colonization of the Americas, mainly in Mexico. A repository of traditional know-how, he revisits ancestral craft techniques to create objects that question History. Initially trained in metallurgical and chemical engineering, he worked in Mexico's largest mining operation before embarking on artistic studies. In the works of Omar Castillo Alfaro, antipodes coexist. The contrast of materials is the way in which the artist poses his investigations; besides, it is the same as the reflection of society itself. The artist also takes an interest in unblocking situations that have become trapped in the negative affects we inherit.
Omar graduated in 2022 with honors a DNSEP from the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Lyon and won the Prix de Paris 2022. Previously, he graduated in 2014 with a Chemical Metallurgical Engineering degree at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in visual arts. Subsequently, he was in residence at the Faculty of Arts in Medellín, Colombia.
Omar Castillo Alfaro is currently in residence through at the Cité internationale des Arts in Paris, FR. He has been included in several group exhibitions at Biennial of the Arts UNAM, MX; Contemporary art center La Ferme du Buisson, Paris, FR; La Villette, Paris, FR.
In October, he will have a solo show at the Cité internationale des Arts, Paris, FR; and participating at the 67th edition of the Salon de Montrouge, Paris, FR. In 2024, Omar is invited to Salon ACME Art Fair, Mexico, MX.

Paola Siri Renard
Paola Siri Renard, born in 1993 Paris, France; lives and works in between Paris, France & Brussels, Belgium.
Paola Siri Renard is a visual artist whose practice includes installations in which she investigates architecture, science fiction and natural processes to evoke metamorphosis, bodies disintegrating and morphing into new constellations. Exploring stories and anecdotes that echo a singular cultural capital, she designs her sculptures as devices of displacement - between centuries, between worlds and their myths. Renard's work reveals insidious architectural and political structures which shape civic spaces and social interactions. In reappropriating these dominant ornamental elements, Renard questions the dissemination of designed environments and the exclusionary underpinnings that marginalise specific identities.
Paola graduated in 2017 with a DNSAP from the École des Beaux-Art in Paris and studied in 2016 at Geidai University in Tokyo. Following her graduation, she continued at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf from 2018 to 2021. Currently she is pursuing the HISK residency in Brussels from 2022 to 2023.
She was nominated for the 9ème Bourse Révélations Emerige 2022, Paris, FR and commissioned by Publiek Park 2023, Antwerp, BE. Paola has been included in several exhibitions at De Appel, Amsterdam, NL; Société d’Électricité, Brussels, BE; Institut Français, Madrid, ES; Ontsteking, Ghent, BE; Fondation Fiminco, Paris, FR; Galerie Jan van de Weyer, Düsseldorf, DE; Hôtel des Arts TPM, Toulon, FR; Kunstverein Mischpoke, Mönchengladbach, DE; Art Biesenthal, Berlin, DE; La Maréchalerie - CAC, Versailles, FR; amongst others.
Paola Siri Renard has been selected for the WIELS Residency Program in 2024 in Brussels, BE.

Astrid Vandercamere
Astrid Vandercamere, born in 1997 Lille, France; lives and works in Brussels, Belgium.
Astrid Vandercamere is a multidisciplinary artist working with text, video, and installation. Through these different formal processes, she imagines material stories where one can learn to grow, transform and hybridize. Her work aims to create spaces where fiction isn!t simply an illustration or an application of theoretical discourse but a reflexive practice in itself, for itself. Using cultural and aesthetic references that borrow as much from SF imagination than from
adolescent culture or (eco)feminist thinking, her work activates the ability to switch between common culture and individual experiences to build a contemporary science fiction in which our current questions draw as much alternative presents as repaired futures.
Astrid graduated in 2020 with a DNSEP from EESAB Rennes, and in 2022 with a master’s from ARBA ESA Brussels.
In the past two years, Astrid developed a theoretical practice, in dialogue with her plastic issues, which will be the subject of a conference at the 2023 edition of the FAME festival, Brussels, BE. Alongside this personal practice, she is also part of a Brussels collective, La Satellite, which brings together feminist artists and writers around contemporary science fiction. She has been included in group exhibitions at Espace Vanderborght, Brussels, BE and at La Verrière
fondation Hermès, Brussels, BE.

Megan Bruinen
Megan Bruinen, born in 1998 Rotterdam, Netherlands; lives and works in Brussels, Belgium.
Megan Bruinen is an audio-visual artist whose work revolves around reality, fiction, desire, fantasy – and the idea that even inanimate objects, words or moments in time know feelings of neglect or bliss. These pivotal concepts render actions of gleaning and capturing (or: !freezing"#or: !highlighting") the most important structures in the artist"s practice. There is a specific interest in cultural cross- referentiality that pushes her personal fascinations to fuse with general (western)-(current)-worldly obsessions. Therefore, video, music and writing are currently the preferred disciplines.
Megan will graduate in 2024 of a MFA from the LUCA School of Arts in Brussels. She has been included in various exhibitions, screenings and performances at Objects & Sounds, Gent, BE; Sparewheel, Brussels, BE; Het Resort, Groningen, NL; Mercerie, Brussels, BE; WIELS, Brussels, BE.

Jacob Schoolmeesters
Jacob Schoolmeesters, born in 1999 Leuven, Belgium; lives and works in Brussels, Belgium.
Jacob Schoolmeesters is an audio-visual artist. His works mainly revolve around the term "Phantom nostalgia": the longing for an experience, feeling or place one has never experienced. It is a form of nostalgia fueled by the overflow of images and stories coming from new technologies. Looking for ways and means, he indulges in playing with how this term might translate to the physical world. Using written and drawn symbols, film and other tools, he creates a world where levity rules and rules are subverted. Play is a serious matter: during the game, different rules apply than in everyday life and even everyday objects undergo transubstantiation.
Jacob graduated in 2023 with a MA from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, KASK, Ghent. His work was previously shown in exhibitions, screenings and performances such as Les Tombées de la Nuit, Rennes, FR; Kunstenfestival des Arts, Brussels, BE; Manchester International Festival, Manchester, UK; Arts Festival Groningen, Groningen, NL; KASK Cinema, Ghent, BE; Medusa Off Space, Brussels, BE; Cinema Fabrik, Leuven, BE.

Gaadjika
Manon Balay, Gaadjika, born in 1990 Lyon, France; lives and works in Paris, France.
Gaadjika is a multidisciplinary artist. A gadji is a popular term to refer to a woman. Niki de Saint Phalle had her Nanas, Gaadjika has her Gadjis. The artist places her work under the spectrum of the emotional and the sensory, where the viewer's feelings occupy a primordial place in the conception of these projects. Her painting and video works use a deliberately naïve aesthetic, enabling her to deal with deep, painful and intimate subjects. The recurring themes are the duality between the intimate space and the outside world, the fantastic and the banal, as well as memory. Tales play a fundamental role in Gaadjika's work, using their therapeutic virtues as demonstrated by the book Women who run with the wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estès or the Psychoanalysis of fairy tales by Bruno Bettelheim.
Gaadjika graduated in 2015 with a DNAP from Villa Arson Ecole Beaux-Arts de Nice. Her work has been included in various individual and group exhibitions at La Villette, in collaboration with Le Centre-Pompidou, Paris, FR; Le Floréal de Belleville, Paris, FR; Salon de Montrouge, Paris, FR; Fondation Fiminco, Romainville, FR; Maison Contemporain, Paris, FR; Living Cube, Orléans, FR; Le Consulat, Paris, FR. In 2020, she created the football team Gaadji FC.

Julia Tarissan, born in 1995 Tarbes, France; lives and works in Paris, France.
Julia Tarissan is an audio-visual artist who developed a self-taught directing practice that involves mixing media where her goal is to surprise the viewer. Her work comes to life through a charged aesthetic that tells the adventures of naïve characters, tackling the themes of everyday life with absurdity and fatality. She has also produced video clips for Feu! Chatterton, Sophie Calle and Timothée Joly, among others, supported by CNC (Centre National du Cinema).
Julia graduated in 2020 with a DNSAP from the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts de Paris-Cergy and in 2023 from the post-graduate program Le Fresnoy - Studio National des Arts Contemporains.
Her movies were selected and projected in various festivals at Si Cinéma Festival, Caen, FR; Le Fresnoy, Tourcoing, FR; Le Doc!, Paris, FR; and awarded at MINT Festival, Billings, MT.

Lewi Moors
Lewi Moors, born in 1999 Leuven, Belgium; lives and works in Paris, France.
Lewi Moors is a 3D-artist where his artistic practice starts from the observation that people worldwide are driven by an inextinguishable longing for the transcendent: the superhuman, the infinite or absolute, that which is hidden and lost behind the sensory reality of earthly existence. By realizing the loss and impermanence of our world, including ourselves, we seek answers to the fundamental questions we face in our human existence. In more recent Western society, where notions of religion and the divine have become obsolete, we have begun to seek the fulfillment of our need for the transcendent elsewhere: in the ever-evolving forms of virtualization and technology. His art therefore gives meaning for this longing by translating the idea of the transcendent into the virtual world.
The virtual world is in fact an escapism to the inevitable decay of time. Worlds existing inside the digital landscape evoke a bittersweet melancholic feeling. At first it represents a romantic longing to an alternative, utopian existence, excluded from the fear of the finitude of things. Because it stays "alive” in the imaginative concept of the "cloud”. On the other hand, it creates room for a dark realization of our own existence due to a manifestation of the unreachable concept of infinitude.
Lewi graduated in 2022 with an MFA from the Royal Academy of Fines-Arts, KASK, Ghent.

Valentin Ranger
Valentin Ranger, born in 1992 Paris, France; lives and works between London, United Kingdom and Paris, France.
Valentin Ranger is a visual and audio-visual artist. Through his drawings, paintings, 3D films and sculptural installations, he unfolds a dreamlike world in constant mutation, in the image of the human body, which he makes his principal object of study. In overflowing, almost saturated settings, or in virtual rooms traversed at 360°, the artist stages hybrid characters and cellular forms that vibrate to the pulsations of an indeterminate organism. From one medium to another, he writes the epic of a community where marginal or invisible populations - sexual and gender minorities - build new forms of solidarity together.
Valentin graduated in 2023 with a double master’s degree from the Royal College of Art in London and Beaux-Arts de Paris, after several years in the theatre. His work has been shown at the Reiffer Art Initiative, Paris, FR; Centre Pompidou, Paris, FR; FAB/Galerie du Jour, Paris, FR; Galerie Sultana, Paris FR; Mor Charpentier, Paris, FR; the Frac Île de France, Paris, FR and the Villa Noailles, Nice, FR. He is the recipient in 2020 of the Agnès B prize and received in 2022 the Prix Spécial du Jury at the Bourse des Révélations Emerige. In 2024, Valentin will have his firsts solo show at Zabludowicz Collection (Invites Program), London, UK; and at Galerie Mor Charpentier, Paris, FR.
