For the fourth and final edition of Rubbing Shoulders, LuCi collective invites emerging artist and curator Lupe Arens for a screening of her film The First Sin (2023). Based on this graduation project, we unravel the images, ideas, and influences that have shaped her artistic practice, as well as the works that have left a lasting impression on her. The First Sin confronts us with the way female role models throughout film history are cast in recognizable patterns. Through makeup, costume, set design, and foley sounds, Lupe exposes these visual and auditory codes. This theme also resonates in Glass Skin (2024), Harold Lechien's graduation film, in which similar mechanisms become visible in advertising campaigns for cosmetics and beauty products. 

After the screening, Lupe will talk to curator, artist, filmmaker, and educator Eva van Tongeren. Together, they will delve deeper into the films, the cross-pollinations between them, and the layered influences that connect these works.
