As part of Compassionate Week, we are screening Taste of Cherry (1997), Abbas Kiarostami's dreamlike, contemplative masterpiece.

Middle-aged Mr. Badii wants to end his life in a society where suicide is considered an abomination. Driving through the hills surrounding Tehran, he searches for someone willing to bury him after his death. Along the way, he encounters a range of different people, each with their own reasons for refusing his request.

Taste of Cherry is a film about what cannot easily be spoken. About grief and loss, but equally about connection, and the need to truly know and understand another person. About compassion. And, ultimately, about what it means to be human.
