The Edge of Chaos

Exploring the liminal land where patterns emerge and disappear

A transition space between order and disorder, the edge of chaos is a region of bounded instability, a margin, a space in between where this might happen.

Playing on this concept, Ohme invites artists and scientists to explore the liminal land where patterns emerge and disappear.

18:30 - 19:00

Meet the artists: Ohme & Frederik Vanhoutte talk about the installation κῦμα. Meet them in the exhibition space to learn about fading boundaries between art, science and technology.

19:00 - 20:00

Keynote: Chaos, randomness, nonlinearity, complexity, fractality. What do these terms mean for us and our systems? In his talk 'Control' Frederik Vanhoutte will share his musings on this question and show us how he uses these concepts in his generative art practice.

20:15 - 21:00

Instabilités is a performative project, born from the meeting between two artists who wanted to create a hybrid work, between art, science and digital tools. Through experiments on moving fluids and vibration, the artists illustrate the idea that the infinitely small and the infinitely large can have many similarities in their functioning and their plastic quality. Using manipulations based on fluid mechanics, whether static or dynamic, this performance offers spectators a composition of kinetic and sound tableaux, between abstraction and representation of reality. Inspired by the scientific imagination and science fiction, the performance presents a poetic and sensitive translation of experiments on the vibrations of moving fluids.
