A foraging adventure on the VUB campus for students.
Get to know the campus in a different way through the edible plants growing here. Foraging has long been, and still is in many places, a way of eating and living with what a place provides. In this session, it becomes a practical way to explore sustainability and feel more connected. It’s also a reminder that we’re part of an ecosystem, not separate from it.

Join Juliette from Kin Hands for a collective walk. You’ll learn what to look for, pick a small selection, and then prepare and share a simple meal. Along the way, we’ll take time to exchange plant stories, memories, and personal connections. Together, we'll create a welcoming space for kinship with plants, with place, and with each other.

PROGRAMME

17:00 (5:00 PM) - Meet at Pilar to start the walk
18:30 (6:30 PM) - Prepare and share a meal from foraged edibles
20:00 (8:00 PM) - Expected end of the workshop

REGISTRATION

Participation is free, but places are limited (max. 15). Registration is required. Please note: this session is for students only.
Juliette works on the relations between and amongst humans, non-humans, and land. They do so through writing, collage, and the domestic arts. Herbalism, foraging, earth pigments... are all tools in creating and reclaiming the means of art production. Juliette is devoted to exploring our dis/connections to territory and community amidst migrations, political turmoil, and global capitalism. Through their practice Kin Hands, Juliette aims to bring people together while centering land, with all the heritage, emotions and sensorial knowledge that brings. Kin Hands facilitates workshops to solidify joyful, inherited and popular knowledge against a world of hierarchy and extractivism.

PART OF

The Foragers: Engagements beyond the Human, an interdisciplinary art-science project that brings together artists, researchers and enthusiasts to reimagine the ancient practice of foraging as a bold, imaginative and future-facing practice.  Alongside film screenings, talks and collective practices, the programme comes together in the exhibition at Pilar (24 April – 29 May).
