What is Sexual Energy? We often immediately think of physical erotic sensations. But does it really get it? What if sexual energy has more potential than we might think? What if it can heal?
Sexual energy is one of the most powerful sources of energy that a human being possesses. It is a primal force that is present everywhere and always in subtle layers in daily life. These principles have been known for thousands of years in Eastern spiritual movements such as Tantra and Tao. Curators Neoza Goffin and Maarten Vanermen selected 6 artists who work on these themes and let Western people taste this knowledge.

Participative performance

During the opening of "Redefining Sexual Energy" we go a step further and we will not only show art. We want the different themes to penetrate the subconscious of the audience. That is why the artists were asked to create a participatory performance in which visitors can get to work with the themes of this exhibition.

Lucas Dewulf - SEKSMAG!

Lucas Dewulf (Nearly Norman) is the founder of XRT. He is an artist, educator and facilitator exploring and creat- ing immersive realities.
He is developing his artistic practice creating experi- ences where human connection is central. Key to his work is using the affordances of digital technologies to explore the physical world and to question our analog nature within virtual space.Currently he lives in Ghent, Belgium.
SEKSMAG! is an augmented reality installation where desire, sexuality and identity can be explored. SEKS- MAG! reveals hidden sex positive communities within 80’s porn.

Simeon Van der Hoeven

Simeon is a visionary artist known for mass nude projects in nature, in which participants are guided into geometrical shapes inspired by spirituality, mathematics and science. His combination of art and a wide background in various healing practices offers a transformative process for those that participate in these projects. Simeon focuses the lens on healing individually experienced abuse and exploring humankind’s trauma across psychological, physiological, socio-economical, cultural, consciousness and spiritual planes. When designing his projects, he tries to integrate and translate the information he receives during visions, dreams and channellings. He creates a unity with Self, surrendering to the process and helping participants expose themselves and experience this merging with the larger Source and consciousness. In this way, this work becomes more than a personal endeavour, and creates a community and larger purpose for this Earth.

Viktoria Krug - Vulvacasting

Vulvarium wants to challenge negative, sexualized or simply incomplete representations of the vulva in language, education and media by creating and displaying a comprehensive, inclusive, and natural collection of artistic and anatomically correct statues of vulvas. Through a process of taking an exact copy of the participant’s vulva, the subsequent manufacture of the statue and the publication of photos of the finished product, a collection of vulvas is created and made accessible to educate and to break the taboo around this amazing body part. The vulva statue itself is then given to the participant and displaying their decorative vulva statue at home will encourage many thought processes and conversations. Seeing the statue on a daily basis will certainly start a process of self-awareness and a desire to understand the own body and vulva better, so that one thing becomes very clear: every vulva is different, every vulva is normal and every vulva is beautiful.

Neoza Goffin

Neoza Goffin is an interdisciplinary healing artist, touch-based guide and curator. She explores how the fusion of touch-based rituals and art can be used for psychological transformation. Touch-based practices tap into subtle layers of sexual energy through exercis- es with touch. Its goals are: raising awareness of the importance of touch and consent, connecting with your own body and communicating a broader interpretation of intimacy. In her artistic practice, she combines con- temporary themes such as sex positivity, body diversity, multiculturalism, colour therapy and inclusivity with spiritual symbolism based on Tantra, Tao and Bud- dhism. She uses immersive installation, photography, VR, video and performance.
As an interdisciplinary healing artist she builds a bridge between art, fashion and the healthcare sector. She is doing touch-based rituals with installations in exhibitions and galleries. She exhibited in Tatjana Pieters gallery, UNSEEN (Amsterdam) and Waking Life Festival (Portugal) funded by the Flemish Audiovisual Fund. She is doing collaborations with brands such as La Fille d’O. And she has her own practice with a space decorated with her art for weekly touch-based group sessions.
She is presenting her graduation project “StarSeeds came down to bring Unalome” and her new project in progress “Lilac Diversity”.

Ioa Salden

Ioa Salden graduated in July 2022 with a master in visual arts at LUCA Ghent. She is currently studying for her educational master in fine arts. Her work exists out of paintings and drawings exploring themes such as nature, love, sexuality and our consumption society. In her aesthetics she combines kitschy elements with landscapes and portraits. Often she adds a ‘cheesy’ fairty tale touch which represents her love for fantasy and cartoons.
Her drawing ‘Synesthesia’ shows a couple laying naked on the forest floor. They are cuddling while a bright blue thread connects them to each other as well to the ground. This drawing was inspired by some of the synesthetic experiences she had.
Synesthesia is a phenomenon in which the brain links several senses together. Allowing you to experience mutliple sensory stimuli at the same time, without some of these senses being directly activated. For example ‘feeling’ different colours through touch and sexual activity.

Delphine’s work has been exhibited worldwide in cities including Berlin, New York, London and Los Angeles. Her Film “PLETHORA“ won Best Experimental Film at both the Toronto Arthouse Filmfestival (2016) and the Verona International Film Festival (2016).
