The s𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 m𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲 l𝗼𝗼𝗽 is an event showcasing upcoming directors from Belgium and beyond. The genre is irrelevant; it's the message that matters. Short movies offer a glimpse into the world that an up-and-coming filmmaker wants to create and dare to show. These glimpses deserve to be shown on a big screen, just like any renovated movie with a big budget. We are screening the future talents of our film-making community.
"I'm very excited to share with you on 1 June 2026 the films I've selected for my first curated Short Movie Loop. It will be an afternoon where the cinema doors are open, allowing you to drop in and perhaps bump into one of the creators. We'll round off the evening with the final full screening programme behind closed doors for a proper cinema experience, followed by a Q&A with the directors themselves!'

Mariia Shmeleva
Mariia Shmeleva (24) is a creative producer and director whose journey into the arts began with a degree in nuclear chemistry. This transition from the exact sciences to film has given me the opportunity to explore things from different perspectives.
"For me, film has become not just a profession, but a form of salvation and a way of understanding life.
My journey includes more than six original projects and work on a film that won an award at the 2025 Cannes World Film Festival."
Her film *EGOIST* is a short psychological drama about a man who has spent his whole life trying to live up to society’s expectations, but on his 28th birthday decides to be himself for the first time.
Short Film:
Through a story of gender ambiguity, the film explores the pressures of family, social roles and notions of the ‘correct’ identity.
This is not a story about choosing between male and female, but about inner freedom — about the moment when a person stops living to meet others’ expectations and accepts their own nature.

Maria Luckerath
Maria is a Brussels-born writer and filmmaker who completed five years of film school in Brussels.
Her work is deeply informed by questions of spirituality, faith, future, and inner voice.
She is particularly interested in cinema as a sensory and philosophical medium, often working across sound, to explore subjectivity and altered states of
perception. Her practice leans toward experimental and poetic forms, with sound playing a central narrative role. Alongside filmmaking, she maintains a parallel commitment to writing as an essential part of her artistic language.
Short Film:
A world where humans only live for 60 years and can exchange time off their lives for currency. Will 18 year old Nabila make an irreversible transaction?

Amadou-Oury Diallo
AD videographer and editor (and a professional life enjoyer) documenting life on tape, romanticizing it just a little. He shoots for himself, for others, and for brands—always on camcorders, always on tape.
That choice is personal: His mom used to film him on a camcorder when he was a kid, and rewatching those tapes every birthday became a ritual. One long conversation with her while he was figuring out to turn that ritual into a lifelong obsession.
These videos are basically windows into AD's head—tape footage mixed with animations he draws on his iPad to show how he sees the world. Every project is a chance to reinvent himself, learn new things, and connect with new audiences. Think of them as journal entries: music and visuals that reveal the story he's trying to tell.

Short film:
A short documentary about Black women in the media. Comprising street interviews, found media, book quotes, and a short film, asking women the question: 'How do you shine in a world that tries to dim your light?'
He chose this question because it reflects his personal interpretation of the theme of rebellion in the exposition. He dedicated his first documentary to the best example of resistance he knows: Black women around him being their authentic selves in a world that has tried and still tries to prevent that.
These are some voices but not all.
